The Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-4) travel to West Lafayette this weekend for a BIG 10 West battle with the Purdue Boilermakers (2-6). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on November 2nd at Ross-Ade Stadium and the game will be nationally televised on FOX.
Taking a look at the Week 10 college football odds, Purdue opened as a 2-point home underdog earlier this week. That spread hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Boilermakers are currently available at +2. The total for the game is sitting at 55.5 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Purdue vs Nebraska
Nebraska has now lost three out of their last four games after falling 38-31 at home against Indiana last weekend to drop back to .500 on the season overall. The Cornhuskers led 21-16 at the half but collapsed in the third quarter, getting outscored 15-3 en route to a seven-point defeat. QB Noah Vedral went 14/16 for 201 passing yards while also adding two touchdowns on the ground despite rushing for just 21 yards on seven carries. RB Wan’Dale Robinson also found the end zone on one of his game-high 22 carries for 83 yards. J.D Spielman led the way for the receiving corps, making five catches for 97 yards. Overall, Nebraska gained over 500 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.
The Cornhuskers didn’t have a very good outing on the other side of the ball against Indiana, surrendering well over 450 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. Nebraska had no answer for Hoosiers WR Whop Philyor, as he torched the secondary for 178 yards on a game-high 14 receptions.
Purdue lost their second consecutive game last weekend, coming up well short in a 24-6 home loss against Illinois. The Boilermakers gave up 17 unanswered points in the first half and never recovered, scoring just six points the entire game against a tough Fighting Illini defense. Jack Plummer and Aidan O’Connell didn’t do all that much through the air, combining for only 136 passing yards and one touchdown. RB Alexander Horvath led the way on the ground, averaging 6.0 yards per carry. Payne Durham was on the receiving end of the only touchdown of the day for the offense, reaching the end zone on an 11-yard passing play. As a whole, Purdue generated well under 300 total yards of offense in the loss.
The Boilermakers were pretty average defensively against Illinois, surrendering almost 300 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. Purdue really struggled to slow down Fighting Illini RB Dre Brown, as he rushed for 131 yards on 18 carries.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Nebraska -2
This is shaping up to be a pretty interesting BIG 10 West clash on Saturday afternoon, as there certainly doesn’t appear to be a whole lot of separation between these two teams. While both defenses have really struggled for the most part this season, Purdue has also really hit the skids on the offensive side of the ball lately as well. In fact, the Boilermakers have now scored 20 points or less in three out of their last four games overall. The same issues don’t appear to exist on the other side of this matchup, as Nebraska has already scored 30+ points in five games this year.

However, it is important to point out how bad the Cornhuskers have performed against the spread so far this season. Nebraska is a brutal 1-7 ATS through their first eight games overall and a dreadful 0-5 ATS over their last five games against BIG 10 opponents. Even so, this spread is still small enough that I don’t mind laying the two points in order to take the team that I believe will win outright. I’ll take a stab with the slight road favorite on Saturday afternoon – give me the Cornhuskers to win outright and cover the number!
