Raiders vs Lions Game Odds & Betting Preview

Detroit Lions

The Lions snapped a three game losing streak last weekend, beating the New York Giants 31-26 at home to improve to 3-3-1 on the season overall. Detroit scored 14 unanswered points in the first quarter and managed to hold on down the stretch, outscoring the G-Men by a single point in the second half. QB Matthew Stafford played well, going 25/32 for 342 passing yards and through touchdowns through the air. None of the running backs really stepped up in the absence of usual starter Kerryon Johnson, as Tra Carson led the way with 12 carries but only managed 34 yards on the ground. WR Kenny Golladay torched the Giants secondary, making six receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns. As a whole, the Lions offense generated 401 total yards and found the end zone three times in the victory.

Detroit struggled defensively against the Giants, surrendering over 400 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. The Lions had no answer for rookie QB Daniel Jones through the air, as he went 28/41 for 322 yards and four touchdowns.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders lost their second straight game last weekend, falling 27-24 on the road against Houston to drop back below .500 on the season overall. Oakland held a 21-13 lead at the start of the fourth quarter but completely self-destructed over the final 15 minutes of the game, giving up two touchdowns en route to their fourth loss of the year. QB Derek Carr certainly wasn’t to blame, going 18/30 for 285 passing yards and three touchdowns. RB Joshua Jacobs led the way on the ground, rushing for 66 yards on 15 carries. WR Tyrell Williams made a huge impact in his first game back from an injury, hauling in three catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. Overall, the Raiders offense gained almost 400 total yards of offense and scored three touchdowns despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.

Oakland had a below average outing on the other side of the ball in Week 8, giving up over 400 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. The Raiders really struggled to contain Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins, as he made a game-high 11 catches for 109 receiving yards.

Free NFL Betting Predictions and Pick: Lions +3

While I am at least slightly tempted by the OVER on 50.5 total points scored as well, I think I’m leaning towards taking Detroit against the spread here in this matchup. It’s really hard to trust Oakland defensively right now, as they have given up at least three touchdowns in six straight games. While Derek Carr, Darren Waller, and the rest of the Raiders offense have found a way to keep the rest of the team competitive, I’d rather take the free points in a game that the Lions could easily win outright here in Week 9.

Both teams have identical 4-3 records against the spread so far this year, but Detroit has had the upper hand when facing Oakland as of late, covering the number in two out of their last three meetings overall. The Lions are also a very solid 5-1 against the spread over their last six road games and a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five matchups with AFC opponents. On the other side, the Raiders are just 1-8 straight up over their last nine meetings with NFC North opponents. I’m going to take the three points and side with the slight road underdog on Sunday afternoon, as I think Detroit will win this battle outright – give me the Lions!
