Surprisingly, one of the more intriguing games on the Week 6 NFL schedule involves the Los Angeles Rams visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kickoff is at 4:05 EST on Sunday, October 15 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. The game can be seen on Fox in local markets.

The Jaguars are listed as 2.5-point favorites at home. However, this game began as a PK, so betting has been heavy in Jacksonville’s favor. The over/under for the game is 43.5 points. Click here for a full list of the Week 6 betting odds and links to more game previews.

Rams vs Jags Vegas Preview & Game Predictions

Last week was ugly for the Rams, as they were stopped in their tracks by the Seahawks. However, the rest of their season has gone quite well. It began with a blowout of the Colts in Week 1 and also includes shootout victories over the 49ers and Cowboys.

Second-year quarterback Jared Goff has been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this year. He’s currently leading the second-highest scoring team in the NFL, with plenty of help coming from Todd Gurley. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles defense has not played as well as expected, forcing the Rams to average more than 30 points per game to get to 3-2 at this point of the season.

The Jaguars have an identical record and have been equally surprising. However, the Jags have reached 3-2 primarily with defense. Jacksonville leads the NFL in both sacks and interceptions and is second in fumble recoveries. The Jaguars are also allowing the second-fewest points per game in the NFL.

Behind a great defense and the efforts of rookie running back Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars have wins this season over the Texans, Ravens, and Steelers. Unfortunately, those wins have been balanced out by disappointing losses to the Titans and Jets.

Free NFL Betting Prediction: Jaguars -2.5

Jacksonville’s inconsistency from one week to the next worries me, as does the team’s struggles on offense. However, a five-interception performance, including two that were returned for a touchdown, last week against the Steelers can’t be ignored. At 2.5 points, this game is still essentially a PK, so I’ll lean toward the home team with an outstanding defense.

Last week, the Rams were slowed down considerably by a great defense, turning the ball over five times and scoring just 10 points against the Seahawks. It’d be one thing if that happened in Seattle, but the Rams were the home team. That doesn’t mean I’m willing to sell on the Rams completely. However, against the Jaguars they’ll face a defense that’s just as good, if not better, than the one they faced last week.

There is also some concern about the Los Angeles defense. The Rams have plenty of talent on that side of the ball, which is why it’s so puzzling that they’ve given up 27 or more points on three separate occasions. Specifically, both the Redskins and Cowboys had great success running the ball against the Rams. Against Jacksonville, the Rams will see a heavy dose of Fournette until they prove they can stop him. If they can’t stop him, the Jags have a chance to control the game on both sides of the ball.

To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything that happens in this game. But the Jags are too good on defense not to find a way to win games that are close and competitive. For this game, I’ll take my chances with the better defensive team.
