Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: SJ State vs Fresno State
Fresno State lost their third game in a row last weekend, falling 35-28 at home against Nevada to drop to 4-7 on the season overall. The Bulldogs had a 21-14 lead at the half but couldn’t hold on down the stretch, giving up three touchdowns over the final two quarters of the game. QB Jorge Reyna went 27/37 for 261 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while RB Josh Hokit rushed for just 32 yards on seven carries. Ronnie Rivers led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in seven catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. As a whole, Fresno State gained well over 300 total yards of offense and found the end zone four times despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.
The Bulldogs didn’t have a good outing on the other side of the ball against Nevada, giving up over 400 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. Fresno State had no answer for RB Toa Taua on the ground, allowing him to rack up 135 rushing yards and a touchdown.
San Jose State also lost their third straight game last weekend after a tough 38-35 road defeat against UNLV. The Spartans fell behind 21-6 in the first half and couldn’t quite find a way to pull off a dramatic comeback despite outscoring the Rebels 29-17 over the final two quarters. QB Josh Love went 37/56 for 465 yards and three touchdowns but also threw a season-high four interceptions as well. DeJon Packer led the way on the ground, rumbling for 78 rushing yards and a score. Tre Walker absolutely torched the Rebels secondary, making 12 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. Overall, San Jose State generated just under 550 total yards of offense and scored five touchdowns in the loss.
The Spartans struggled defensively against UNLV, surrendering well over 400 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. San Jose State couldn’t find a way to slow down Rebels RB Charles Williams on the ground, as he exploded for 186 rushing yards and three touchdowns on a game-high 27 carries.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: SJ State +2.5
As badly as I want to take a shot with the OVER on 60 total points in this Mountain West Conference clash, there are simply too many question marks with the weather to feel overly confident about an offensive shootout. Both of these defenses have really struggled as of late, giving up at least 35 points in three out of their last four games. Things have been much more positive on the other side of the ball for both teams, as each offense has scored at least 35 points in four out of their last five outings overall. However, with a ton of rain and some pretty heavy wind in the forecast, points may be harder to come by than usual.

With so many negative environment factors to take into account, I think I will be forced to avoid the total entirely. Therefore, I’m leaning slightly towards the Spartans against the spread on Saturday evening, as this game could certainly go either way and I’d rather have the 2.5 points in my pocket. San Jose State has also been the much better team against the spread so far this year, going a respectable 6-4-1 ATS through their first eleven games. The Bulldogs haven’t fared nearly as well, as they are only 3-7-1 ATS over that same time span. Fresno State has also been terrible on the road, failing to cover the number in three out of their last four games away from Bulldog Stadium. I’ll take a shot with the home underdog in a game they could easily win outright – give me the Spartans to cover!
