Stanford vs Oregon State Vegas Betting Line & Game Preview
The Cardinal improved to 5-2 on the season after blowing out the Oregon Ducks last weekend. Stanford already led by two touchdowns by the end of the first quarter and dominated the Ducks in all facets of the game the rest of the way. Star RB Bryce Love had another fantastic outing, racking up 147 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries. Love is averaging a ridiculous 198.1 yards per game on the ground and is a large reason why the Cardinal have one of the best offenses in the entire nation. They are currently averaging 38.1 points per game (19th overall) and 456.7 total yards per game. On the other side of the ball, Stanford has looked quite strong defensively. They are holding opponents to an average of 22.0 points per game and have already forced 15 turnovers so far this year.
Oregon State fell to a woeful 1-6 on the season after they dropped their last game against Colorado on October 14th. The Beavers kept it close all game but ultimately fell just short, losing by a final score of 36-33. The problem for Oregon State certainly isn’t their offense, as QB Jake Luton and RB Ryan Nall have both had decent season up to this point. Nall rushed for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Buffaloes and really helped the Beavers stay close right up until the final seconds of the 4th quarter. The real problem for this Oregon State team has been their horrific play on defense. The Beavers are allowing their opponents to score an average of 43.7 points per game while giving up an average of 478.3 total yards per game. They are ranked among the worst teams nationwide in pretty much every major defensive category.
Free NCAAF Betting Prediction: Stanford -23
The line on this game has already jumped a little bit since betting opened at the beginning of the week as early bettors were all over Stanford at -19.5. I still think there is a bit of value at -23, despite having to give up 3+ touchdowns. The Cardinal have been able to score at will this season while Oregon State hasn’t been able to stop anybody. They are currently ranked 127th out of 129 teams in terms of scoring defense.

Stanford is also 4-0 ATS over their past four road games against teams with a losing record. They are also 17-8-1 ATS in their past 26 conference games. Oregon State started the year 0-5 ATS and looks to still be figuring out their identity moving forward after head coach Gary Anderson was fired several weeks ago. The Beavers are also 0-4 against the Pac 12 so far this season, while Stanford is an impressive 4-1.
The Cardinal are simply the far superior team in this match-up and should put up a ton of points on Thursday evening. It also doesn’t bother me at all that this is an away game, as Stanford’s 1-2 record on the road is largely due to the calibre of their opponents. Oregon State currently ranks outside of the top 100 in terms of rushing defense, so I’m fully expecting Bryce Love to put on another show here in Week 9. Look for Stanford to win comfortably and put this game out of reach in the first couple of quarters.
