Stanford vs Washington Vegas Betting Preview

The Cardinal come into this contest off a thrilling 22-13 win at UCLA. After trailing the majority of the game, Stanford went ahead 16-13 with a late touchdown. They then pulled off the cover with a 42-yard fumble return for a TD as time expired to win 22-13. That’s three straight covers against quality opponents. The Cardinal won 26-13 over Kansas State (-11.5) and 27-10 at home against USC (-7).

Washington found themselves in a dogfight at Arizona late on Saturday. The Huskies needed overtime to take down the Wildcats 35-28. Washington failed to cover as a 14-point favorite. They are now 2-2 versus the number after starting out 2-0.

Stanford has dominated this series of late. The Cardinal have won three straight and seven of the last eight overall. That includes last year’s comfortable 31-14 home win as a 14.5-point favorite.

Free Pick & Point Spread Predictions: Washington -3

I believe the Huskies are one of the best kept secrets in college football. While they are ranked in the Top 10 and are 14 to 1 to win it all, no one is talking about this team.

I know they struggled last week against Arizona, but let’s not overlook how tough a spot that was. The Huskies have had this game against Washington circled since the schedule was released. The fact that it’s a nationally televised weekday game only made it that much harder to not look ahead.

It’s also worth pointing out that game against Arizona could have been a lot different. Washington missed 2 field goals and threw an interception in the end zone. They also turned it over on downs deep in Arizona territory. They still managed to put 35 points and over 500 yards of offense on the board.

While the Huskies were unfortunate not to win by more, Stanford was lucky to win at all. The Cardinal could have just as easily lost to the Bruins. It’s no secret that Stanford’s offense is centered around getting the ball to No. 5.  Christian McCaffrey is one of the best players in the country and does it all for the Cardinal.

The key here is that Washington has the talent defensively to keep the Heisman candidate in check. They also have a pretty good coach in Chris Petersen. I’m confident Petersen will put together a gameplan to limit McCaffrey’s big plays. Forcing the others to beat them.

You also have to factor in the big advantage here with this game being played in Washington. Husky Stadium is one of the more difficult places for opposing teams to play well. There’s no question this place is going to be electric given this being a Top 10 showdown. We just saw Stanford struggle on the road against a UCLA team that isn’t as talented as the Huskies.

Home favorites who have gained 6.25 or more yards/pay in 4 straight games with 8 or more starters returning, including the quarterback are 57-25 (70%) ATS since 1992.
