The Syracuse Orange (8-3) travel to Chestnut Hill this weekend for an ACC showdown with the Boston College Eagles (7-4). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST at Alumni Stadium and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
Taking a look at the Week 13 college football odds, Boston College opened as a 7-point home favorite earlier this week. That line hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Eagles are currently listed at -7. The total for the game is sitting at 57.5 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Boston College vs Syracuse
Syracuse got crushed 36-3 at Yankee Stadium last weekend by undefeated Notre Dame to drop to 8-3 on the season. The Orange headed into the game ranked #12 in the nation, which was the highest on the AP Top 25 poll they had been all year long. However, things certainly didn’t go well on either side of the ball after Syracuse lost starting QB Eric Dungey to an injury in the first half. Dungey had the offense firing on all cylinders over the last several weeks, as they were averaging 46.5 points per game prior to Week 12. Backup Tommy DeVito couldn’t find a way to fill the void, passing for just 105 yards and getting picked off twice. There is little doubt that Dungey is the key for offensive success against Boston College on Saturday, so it will be interesting to see if he is able to suit up after being listed as questionable all week. As a whole, the offense is currently averaging 40.6 points per game and is 20th overall in total yards.
The Orange have not been good defensively so far this season, allowing opponents to score an average of 28.4 points per game (74th overall). They have been especially poor against the pass, as they are giving up 264.1 yards per game through the air (107th overall) through Week 12. Things really took an ugly turn last weekend, as the Fighting Irish racked up almost 300 passing yards.
Boston College has now lost two games in a row after falling 22-21 to Florida State last weekend. The Eagles had a one point lead at both halftime and heading into the 3rd quarter but were ultimately unable to hang on, as the Seminoles put up nine points in the 4th quarter to snatch the win away. QB Anthony Brown had an up and down game, throwing for 297 yards and a touchdown while also getting picked off twice. Brown has now passed for 1,870 yards and 17 touchdowns in 11 games. RB A.J. Dillon leads the way on the ground, racking up 1,052 yards and ten touchdowns. Overall, Boston College is currently averaging 33.0 points per game (35th overall).
The Eagles have looked pretty solid on the defensive side of the ball this year, limiting opponents to 24.2 points per game (48th overall). They have been above average against the run, giving up only 196.7 yards per game on the ground (46th overall).
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Syracuse +7
As of Friday night, it looks like Eric Dungey is trending towards being able to suit up on Saturday afternoon. If he plays, I’m actually expecting the Orange to be able to win this game outright, as they have been fantastic on offense this season with Dungey under center. However, even if he can’t go, I still think I’m taking the road team in this matchup. Yes, DeVito looked overwhelmed last weekend against Notre Dame. Things should be very different here in Week 13, as he has had a full week to practice and will get to face a defense that is giving up over seven more points per game. He should also benefit from not having to chase the game as much, since Boston College is averaging seven less points per game on the other side of the ball.

The Eagles are just 2-5-1 ATS over their last eight home games against teams with a winning road record. Syracuse is a rock-solid 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games. They are also 5-2 ATS over their last seven conference games, 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against opponents with a winning record, and 7-3-1 ATS over their last 11 games overall.
It is also worth noting that the favorite is only 2-6 ATS over the last eight meetings between these two ACC rivals. I fully expect that trend to continue this weekend, especially considering that the Orange have the better record overall and have a 14-point edge per game over Boston College in terms of points allowed/points scored. I’m taking the free touchdown with the better team in this particular matchup – give me Syracuse.
