The Tennessee Volunteers (3-5) host the UAB Blazers (6-1) this weekend for an inter-conference clash from Knoxville.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM EST on November 2nd at Neyland Stadium and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.

Taking a look at the Week 10 college football odds, Tennessee opened as a 10-point home favorite earlier this week. The spread has moved up two full points after early betting, as the Volunteers are currently available at -12. The total for the game is sitting at 48 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Tennessee vs UAB

UAB has now won six out of their first seven games this year after beating Old Dominion 38-14 at home their last time out to move to 6-1 on the season overall. The Blazers scored 14 unanswered points in the first quarter and cruised to victory from there, tacking on three more touchdowns and a field goal en route to a double-digit win. QB Tyler Johnston III went 15/29 for 260 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air but also got picked off once. The running back duo of Jermaine Brown Jr. and Lucious Stanley dominated on the ground, combining for 130 rushing  yards and three touchdowns. Austin Watkins led the way for the receiving corps, making five catches for a team-high 121 yards. As a whole, UAB gained over 400 total yards of offense and scored five touchdowns against a below average ODU defense.

The Blazers had a fairly strong outing on the other side of the ball against Old Dominion, holding the Monarchs offense to just over 150 total yards and one touchdown. UAB was especially tough against the run, surrendering only 53 total rushing yards.

Tennessee took care of business at home against South Carolina last weekend, winning 41-21 to improve to 3-5 on the season overall. The Volunteers trailed 7-3 at the end of the first quarter but dominated both sides of the ball from that point forward, outscoring the Gamecocks 38-14 over the final 45 minutes of the game. Jarrett Guarantano and J.T. Shrout combined for 349 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while RB Ty Chandler averaged almost five yards per carry on the ground. WR Jauan Jennings was basically unstoppable, torching the secondary for 174 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches. Overall, Tennessee generated almost 500 total yards of scored three offensive touchdowns in the victory.

The Volunteers were average defensively against South Carolina, giving up 397 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Tennessee really struggled to slow down Gamecocks WR Shi Smith, as he exploded for 156 yards and a touchdown on a game-high 11 receptions.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: OVER 48

It can be pretty tough at times getting a solid read on these inter-conference matchups, as UAB clearly has the far superior record overall but Tennessee plays in a much harder conference and has already played Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. While I’m leaning slightly towards the home favorite in this particular spot, I don’t feel all that great about laying two full touchdowns. The Blazers have certainly held their own so far this season and I don’t really want to risk a back-door cover – especially since the Vols have given up at least three touchdowns in four out of their last five outings.

UAB has really been firing on all cylinders on offense as of late, scoring at least 30 points in three out of their last four games. While they might have a much tougher time against an SEC-caliber defense, they should still managed to put up enough points to push the total over the number. Of course, Tennessee should be able to score at least 30 points on Saturday evening, especially since they should have a ton of confidence after a 40+ point outing against South Carolina in Week 9. The total has also gone OVER in five out of Tennessee’s last seven home games as well, which certainly pushes me in that direction as well. I’ll avoid both teams against the spread in favor of the OVER on 48 total points scored.
