Texans vs Titans Game Odds & Betting Preview
The Titans have now lost back to back games after falling 38-28 at home against New Orleans last weekend to drop to 8-7 on the season overall. Tennessee jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but collapsed in the second half, getting outscored by the Saints 28-14 over the final two quarters of the game. QB Ryan Tannehill certainly did his part, going 17/27 for 272 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air. RB Derrick Henry was sidelined due to an injury which meant backup Dion Lewis was forced to make a spot start. Lewis played pretty well, racking up close to 100 all-purpose yards. Tajae Sharpe and Jonnu Smith led the way for the receiving corps, combining for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, the Titans generated over 400 total yards of offense and found the end zone four times despite coming up short on the scoreboard.
Tennessee was brutal defensively against the Saints, getting lit up for over 400 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. The Titans had no answer for New Orleans WR Michael Thomas, allowing him to haul in 12 receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown.
The Texans won their second consecutive game last weekend, beating Tampa Bay 23-20 on the road to improve to 10-5 on the season overall. Houston outscored the Bucs 6-3 in the second half to escape with just a three-point victory. QB Deshaun Watson certainly wasn’t at his best, throwing an interception and going 19/32 for 184 passing yards while failing to find the end zone. Kenny Stills also chipped in, making five catches for 57 receiving yards. As a whole, the Texans gained over 225 total yards and scored just a single touchdown on offense in the win.
Houston had a mediocre outing on the other side of the ball against the Buccaneers, surrendering well over 400 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. The Texans struggled at times trying to contain Tampa Bay RB Ronald Jones II, as he racked up 77 rushing yards and a touchdown on a team-high 14 carries.
Free NFL Betting Predictions and Pick: OVER 45
While I also don’t mind laying the 3.5 points and rolling with the road favorite in what is a must-win game for the Titans, my favorite play from this AFC South clash is the OVER on 45 total points scored. RB Derrick Henry has already announced that he is good for this pivotal Week 17 matchup, which means Tennessee should be firing on all cylinders offensively against a below average Texans defense. Houston has also scored at least three touchdowns in four straight games, so I like the chances that these two rivals combine for at least 45 points on Sunday afternoon.

Houston and Tennessee have certainly had their fair share of high-scoring battles at NRG Stadium in recent years, combining for over 50 total points in their last meeting in Houston in a game that featured a total of just 42.5. It is also important to note that the total has now gone OVER in eight out of Tennessee’s last nine games overall. The OVER has also come through in five out of the Titans last six battles against AFC opponents as well. Even through I’m still somewhat interested in laying the 3.5 points and taking a shot with Tennessee against the spread, the optimal play in this spot appears to be the OVER on 45 total points scored.
