Titans vs Jets Vegas Odds & Game Preview

New York dropped to 3-8 on the season overall last weekend after a disappointing 27-13 home loss to New England. The Jets actually played quite well in the first half, as the scored was tied 10-10 at the beginning of the third quarter. It was all downhill from there, however, as the Patriots scored 17 points and held New York to just a field goal over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Josh McCown did his part to keep his team in the game, throwing for 276 yards and a touchdown. McCown injured his hand last weekend and was only able to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday and Thursday, but he should be ready to go against the Titans here in Week 13. He hasn’t been great since taking over for the injured Sam Darnold, as the Jets have scored just 29 points in their last three games combined. As a whole, New York is currently averaging just 20.1 points per game (26th overall) on 302.9 yards of total offense.

The Jets have also been below average defensively through their first eleven games, allowing opponents to score 25.5 points per game (19th overall) on 374.0 total yards of offense. They have really struggled on the ground, giving up an average of 128.2 rushing yards per game (27th overall).

Tennessee dropped back below .500 on the season in Week 12, losing 34-17 to Houston on Monday Night Football. The Titans jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter before the Texans scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter and never looked back. QB Marcus Mariota played very well, passing for 303 yards and two touchdowns in a losing cause. WR Corey Davis led the way through the air and on the ground, racking up over 130 total yards and a touchdown. Overall, Tennessee is averaging 17.7 points per game (29th overall) on 301.7 yards of total offense.

The Titans have been pretty solid on the other side of the ball so far this season, surrendering just 20.3 points per game (6th overall) on 346.5 yards of total offense. They have looked especially strong against the pass, limiting teams to an average of only 230.0 yards through the air per game (9th overall).

Free NFL Betting Prediction: Tennessee -7.5

There isn’t a whole lot to get excited about in regards to this particular matchup, as both of these teams are currently sub .500  and have had disappointing seasons to date. However, the Titans have definitely been playing much better than the Jets as of late, shocking the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys in back to back weeks. Marcus Mariota is a bit of an enigma, as he has a ton of talent but often seems to struggle putting it all together on a consistent basis. Nevertheless, it is much easier to trust him in this matchup than career-long backup Josh McCown – who isn’t even 100% healthy right now.

Tennessee is 5-1 ATS over their last six games on grass. They are also a very impressive 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 home games and 6-5 ATS on the season overall. The Jets are just 3-8 ATS through eleven games this year. They are also a brutal 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall, as the loss of Sam Darnold has clearly negatively impacted them in a big way.

New York is also only 2-7 ATS over their last nine games against the NFC and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against teams with a losing record. I fully expect those trends to continue here in Week 13 against a Tennessee team that has played surprisingly well at home. I’m going to lay the 7.5 points and take a stab with the home favorite – give me the Titans.
