Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Troy vs Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern won their third straight game last Thursday, beating Appalachian State 24-21 on the road despite being double-digit underdogs. The Eagles scored 14 unanswered points in the second quarter and managed to hold on down the stretch despite allowing two late touchdowns. QB Shai Werts only made four passing attempts all game, racking up 83 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries on the ground. RB Wesley Kennedy III torched the Mountaineers defense for 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Mark Michaud made the only reception of the game for the offense, hauling in a 16 yard pass from Werts. Overall, Georgia Southern gained well over 300 yards of offense and found the end zone three times in the victory.

The Eagles had an average outing on the other side of the ball against Appalachian State, surrendering three touchdowns on over 400 total yards of offense. Georgia Southern struggled to contain Mountaineers WR Corey Sutton, as made six catches for 67 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Troy dropped their second consecutive game last weekend, falling 36-35 on the road against Coastal Carolina to fall to 3-5 on the season overall. The Trojans fought hard all game but couldn’t find a way to escape with the victory after getting outscored by just a single point in the fourth quarter. QB Kaleb Barker was fantastic, going 26/35 for 385 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while also adding another score on the ground. RB DK Billingsley chipped in as well, averaging 5.9 yards per carry on a team-high 14 rushing attempts. The speedy receiving duo of Kaylon Geiger and Reginald Todd ran circles around the Chanticleers secondary, combining for 234 passing yards and three touchdowns. As a whole, Troy generated 500 total yards of offense and found the end zone five times despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.

The Trojans weren’t very good defensively against Coastal Carolina, giving up almost 500 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. Troy had no answer for the Chanticleers on the ground, as they racked up close to 200 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: GA Southern -3

While I’m certainly not seeing a ton of value with either of these two Sun Belt Conference rivals against the spread here in Week 11, I think that the Eagles should find a way to win this game outright. As long as the spread doesn’t balloon up to 3.5 points (or higher) before kickoff, I think Georgia Southern is the optimal play in this particular spot. Troy has really struggled against the spread so far this year, going only 2-6 ATS through their first eight games. They have also really struggled at home, failing to cover the number in three out of their last four outings at Veterans Memorial Stadium. GA Southern has been quite solid on the road, beating the spread in two out of their last three outings away from Allen E. Paulson Stadium.

It is also important to note that the Eagles have really dominated this matchup against the spread as of late, covering the number in four out of the last five meetings between these two schools. They have also outscored the Trojans by over a full touchdown over that same time span. I’m going to lay the field goal and roll with the slight road favorite on Saturday afternoon, as I think that GA Southern should pull off a hard-fought cover. Give me the Eagles!
