UCLA vs Washington Vegas Betting Line & Game Preview

The Bruins improved to 4-3 on the year after beating the Oregon Ducks 31-14 last weekend. The game was tied at halftime but UCLA came out in the final two quarters and scored 17 unanswered points en route to an important home victory. QB Josh Rosen continued to shine, throwing for 266 yards and two touchdowns. He is the undisputed leader of this potent UCLA offense that is averaging 38.3 points per game on 510.1 total yards per game. The Bruins are clearly a very pass-heavy team, averaging almost 380.6 passing yards per game compared to just 129.6 rushing yards per game. Unfortunately for UCLA, their defense has been atrocious all year long. The Bruins are allowing an average of 36.7 points per game on 494.0 total yards per game. They also have the dubious distinction of being the worst run defense in the entire nation, averaging 303.4 yards against on the ground per game.

Washington lost their first game of the season in their last outing, getting upset by Arizona State by a score of 13-7. The Huskies had no real solutions for a strong Sun Devils defense as they were held scoreless until the 4th quarter. Their performance against Arizona State was likely an anomaly, as Washington is still averaging 37.9 points and just over 400 total yards per game. QB Jake Browning has been fantastic, throwing for 14 touchdowns in just seven starts while averaging 229.3 passing yards per game. Myles Gaskin has really helped give the Huskies a balanced attack, averaging almost 90 yards per game on the ground. Washington’s play on defense has been just as strong as their offense – the Huskies are limiting teams to an average of 10.6 points on 236.9 total yards per game.

Free NCAAF Betting Prediction: Washington -17.5

I cannot overstate how terrible this UCLA defense is. The Bruins have allowed 40+ points in four out of their seven games so far this season. I think that trend will continue this week against a strong Washington offense that is playing at home. The Huskies should be really hungry to make a statement this weekend after a tough loss to Arizona State. UCLA is 0-3 on the road this year and has given up a combined 153 points in those three loses. In other words, they are currently giving up an average of 51 points per game when playing away from home. 17.5 points is a lot to give up, but I think this Washington team is more than capable of covering the spread.

The Bruins are 1-4 ATS over their past five games overall. They are also 0-4 ATS in their past four road games and 1-5 ATS in their past six games against Pac-12 opponents. On the other hand, Washington is 5-1 ATS in their past six games against the Pac-12. They are fresh off a bye week and will have had plenty of time to think about losing their last game against a beatable opponent. It helps that the Huskies are also 9-3 ATS in their last twelve games coming off a bye week .

I don’t think UCLA has much of a shot to keep this game close. Washington is too good defensively to allow the Bruins to keep pace with Browning and Co. The Huskies are currently 2nd in the country in rushing defense, 6th overall in passing defense, and 3rd overall in scoring defense. I’m fully expecting this game to be over by the middle of the 3rd quarter at the absolute latest. Washington should win this one with ease by at least 20 points.
