Colorado won their second straight game last weekend, upsetting Washington 20-14 at home to improve to 5-6 on the season overall. The Buffaloes jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first half and managed to hold on down the stretch despite getting outscored 14-7 over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Steven Montez went 17/28 for 223 passing yards and one touchdown through the air while also adding 56 rushing yards on just six carries. RB Alex Fontenot was a beast on the ground, rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 24 carries. Laviska Shenault Jr. also found the end zone, hitting pay dirt on one of his seven receptions for 100 yards. As a whole, Colorado gained almost 450 total yards of offense and scored two touchdowns in the victory.

The Buffaloes had a solid outing on the other side of the ball against Washington, surrendering under 250 total yards of offense and just two touchdowns. Colorado was especially strong defending against the run, allowing only 32 net rushing yards the entire game.

Utah has now won ten out of their first eleven games on the season after crushing Arizona 35-7 on the road last weekend to improve to 10-1 overall. The Utes scored 14 unanswered points in the first quarter and never looked back, tacking on three more touchdowns in the second half. QB Tyler Huntley went 19/23 for 211 passing yards and a touchdown through the air but also got picked off once as well. RB Zack Moss torched the Wildcats on the ground, racking up 203 rushing yards and a touchdown on a team-high 26 carries. Brant Kuithe also chipped in, making four catches for 81 receiving yards. Overall, Utah generated over 500 total yards of offense and found the end zone five times in the win.

The Utes were outstanding defensively against Arizona, giving up under 200 total yards of offense and just a single touchdown. Utah completely shut down the Wildcats on the ground, holding them to just 61 rushing yards.

A case could easily be made for avoiding this PAC-12 battle entirely, as I don’t really see a ton of value with either the spread or the total. The Utes should find a way to win this game outright with relative ease, although having to lay four full touchdowns to take the home favorite certainly doesn’t look like a “must play” situation. If forced to pick a side, I’d much rather lay the points and roll with a Utah squad that has only lost outright once over their last eleven games. The Utes have fared quite well against the spread this season, going 8-3 ATS overall. They have also really played well at home this year, covering the number in four out of their last six outings at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

The Buffaloes came up short against Arizona back in early October, falling 35-30 at home. That certainly doesn’t bode well for them here in Week 14, as the Utes just crushed that same Wildcats squad 35-7 on the road last weekend. It is also important to note that Utah is a perfect 3-0 against the spread over the last three meetings between these two PAC-12 south rivals as well. On the other side, Colorado has failed to cover the number in two out of their last three road games. I’ll eat the chalk and take a shot with the massive home favorite on Saturday evening – give me the Utes to cover.
