Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Utah State vs BYU
BYU snapped a three game losing streak their last time out, upsetting #21 overall Boise State 28-25 at home to move to 3-4 on the season overall. The Cougars trailed by a single field goal at the half before pulling off an impressive comeback over the final two quarters, outscoring the Broncos 21-15 en route to a three-point victory. QB Baylor Romney played well, going 15/26 for 221 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air. RB Sione Finau led the way on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Matt Bushman torched the Broncos secondary, hauling in five receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Overall, BYU gained 352 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in the upset win.
The Cougars had a solid outing on the other side of the ball against Boise State, holding the high-flying Broncos to just three touchdowns and under 400 total yards of offense. BYU also did a great job getting pressure to Broncos QB Chase Cord, as they forced him to throw two interceptions.
Utah State dropped back to 4-3 on the season overall last weekend, falling 31-7 on the road against Air Force. The Aggies gave up 17 unanswered points in the second quarter and never recovered, scoring just a single touchdown the rest of the game. QB Jordan Love wasn’t at his best, going 14/23 for 114 passing yards and a touchdown. None of the running backs ever really got anything going on the ground, as Gerold Bright led the way with just six carries for 24 rushing yards. Siaosi Mariner was on the receiving end of the only passing touchdown of the game for Utah State, finding the end zone on one of his three catches for 38 yards. As a whole, the offense only generated 128 total yards against a tough Falcons defense.
The Aggies were below average defensively against Air Force, surrendering just under 500 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. Utah State had no answer for the Falcons patented rushing attack, giving up well over 450 yards on the ground.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: UNDER 51
I’m not really seeing a ton of value against the spread with either side in this all-Utah clash, as this matchup could easily go either way. While I would lean slightly towards taking BYU and the points, I certainly don’t feel all that strongly about it and will likely stay away completely unless the number moves drastically prior to kickoff. However, I do think that the UNDER on 51 total points is fairly appealing, as both defenses have been above average through the first nine weeks of the season. Neither offense appears to be particularly dangerous either, as Utah State has been held under ten points in two out of their last three games while BYU has scored 28 points or less in three consecutive outings.

It is also important to note that the total has gone UNDER in five out of Utah State’s last seven home games. The UNDER has also come through in five out of their last six games overall. Even though this game isn’t likely going to be extremely low scoring, I am expecting both schools to score between 20-25 points each with the final total coming in around 48-49 points combined. I’ll avoid throwing darts against what looks to be a very efficient spread in favor of the UNDER on 51 total points scored.
