Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Utah State vs Colorado State
Colorado State dropped to 1-3 on the season last weekend after a tough 41-35 loss at home to Toledo. The Rams trailed 14-13 at the half and couldn’t quite find a way to pull off the comeback down the stretch, getting outscored 27-22 over the final two quarters. QB Patrick O’Brien played well, going 32/52 for 405 yards and a touchdown through the air. He also added 27 yards and another score on the ground while RB Marvin Kinsey Jr. exploded for 246 yards and two touchdowns on a team-high 23 carries. WR Warren Jackson also was very impressive, hauling in 12 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown. As a whole, Colorado State generated just under 700 yards of total offense and scored four touchdowns despite the loss.
The Rams had yet another poor outing defensively in Week 4, giving up almost 550 total yards of offense and five touchdowns to the Rockets. Colorado State was especially bad against the run, as Toledo RB Bryant Koback torched CSU for 228 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 carries.
Utah State managed to get back above .500 on the season last weekend, beating San Diego State on the road 23-17 to move to 2-1 overall. The Aggies had a big 20-3 lead at the end of the first half before managing to hang on over the final 30 minutes despite getting outscored 14-3. QB Jordan Love was 30/47 for 293 passing yards. Jaylen Warren turned in a solid performance, rushing for 74 yards and a score on a team-high 17 carries. WR Savon Scarver led the way through the air, catching five passes for 90 yards. Overall, Utah State gained over 350 total yards and scored just one touchdown offensively in the victory.
The Aggies defense was outstanding in Week 4, holding the Aztecs to well under 400 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. Utah State also managed to return an interception for a touchdown early in the first half, which eventually proved to be the difference on the scoreboard.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Utah State -23
Even though this spread has already grown by two points, I still think Utah State offers the best value in this particular spot. The Aggies defense really showed me a lot last weekend after a gritty performance against an always tough San Diego State program playing at home. While I was a bit concerned after their Week 1 loss against Wake Forest in which they gave up 38 points, they have only surrendered 24 total points over their last two games combined. Colorado State certainly has an above average offense, as the Rams are currently averaging well over 30 points per game. However, the Rams defense has been horrific so far this year and has now given up 41+ points in three out of their last four games.

The Aggies are a perfect 3-0 against the spread since the beginning of the season and 13-3 ATS over their last 16 games overall. Utah State is also extremely tough at home, going 9-0 against the spread in their last nine home games. Colorado State is only .500 against the spread through their first four games and a terrible 0-5 straight up over their last five games against an opponent from the Mountain West Conference. While I certainly think that the Rams offense will continue to score a decent amount of points, their defense will likely give up at least 45 to a pretty solid Utah State offense. As long as this spread stays under 24 points, I like the Aggies to cover at home on Saturday evening. Give me Utah State!
