The Charlotte 49ers (4-5) travel to El Paso this weekend for a Conference USA clash with the UTEP Miners (1-7). Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM EST on November 9th at the Sun Bowl and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
Taking a look at the Week 11 college football odds, Charlotte opened as a 11.5-point road favorite earlier this week. The spread has increased by a full point after early betting, as the 49ers are currently available at -12.5. The total for the game is sitting at 57 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: UTEP vs Charlotte
Charlotte won their second consecutive game last weekend, beating Middle Tennessee 34-20 at home to improve to 4-5 on the season overall. The 49ers scored 10 unanswered points in the second quarter and never looked back, cruising to a double-digit victory. QB Chris Reynolds went 14/21 for 192 passing yards and a touchdown through the air while also racking up 103 rushing yards and a score on the ground. RB Aaron Mcallister also had a big game, rumbling for 104 yards and two scores on a game-high 24 carries. Cameron Dollar led the way for the receiving corps, making three catches for 80 yards. As a whole, Charlotte gained just under 450 total yards of offense and found the end zone four times in the win.
The 49ers had an average outing on the other side of the ball against Middle Tennessee, surrendering just under 350 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Charlotte really struggled to slow down Blue Raiders QB Asher O’Hara on the ground, as he torched the defense for 148 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
UTEP has now lost seven out of their first eight games after falling 52-26 on the road against North Texas last weekend. The Miners gave up 38 points in the first half alone en route to their seventh defeat of the season. QB Kai Locksley went 17/29 for 119 passing yards through the air while RB Treyvon Hughes exploded for 97 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Justin Garrett led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in a team-high 11 catches for 77 yards. Overall, UTEP generated well over 250 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns despite coming up well short on the scoreboard.
The Miners were horrendous defensively against North Texas, giving up close to 500 total yards of offense and seven touchdowns. UTEP had no answer for Mean Green QB Mason Fine, as he went 24/39 for 332 passing yards and a career-high seven touchdowns.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Charlotte -12.5
Neither of these Conference USA teams have performed all that well against the spread so far this season, going a combined 6-10-1 through 17 total games. However, I still think that the 49ers offer the best value in this particular spot, as they get to face a UTEP squad that has gone an embarrassing 0-4 against the spread in four games this year at the Sun Bowl. The Miners have really struggled on both sides of the ball, especially on defense where they have surrendered 94 total points in just their last two games combined. While Charlotte has also given up some big games to opposing offenses, they have found a way to outscore some of those issues by putting up at least 39 points four times this year already.

UTEP is only 2-8-1 against the spread over their past 11 games overall. They also are winless in their last eight meetings with Conference USA opponents, going 0-8 outright over that time span. I will certainly look to avoid this matchup altogether if the spread moves even slightly higher, as there isn’t exactly a ton of value as things sit right now already. Until then, I’ll lay the 12.5 points and take a shot with the road favorite to cover the spread on Saturday afternoon – give me the 49ers!
