Duke vs Wake Forest Game Odds & Vegas Betting Preview

The Blue Devils come into this one off a 43-20 win and cover as a 7-point home underdog against Georgia Tech. The win came out of nowhere for Duke, who had lost 6 straight coming into the contest. With the victory the Blue Devils still have a shot at reaching bowl eligibility with a win on Saturday.

The Demon Deacons enter off an impressive showing of their own, as they knocked off No. 19 NC State 30-24 as a 2.5-point home favorite. Wake Forest pulled out the victory, despite getting outgained by the Wolfpack 502 to 334. They also had 10 fewer first downs (18-28). The big difference in the game was turnovers, as the Deacons posted a +2 turnover margin.

Last year Wake Forest won 24-14 as a 6.5-point road dog at Duke, which snapped a 3-game skid in the series for the Demon Deacons.

College Football Free Pick & ATS Predictions: Duke +12

I would have to lean towards taking the points with the Blue Devils in this one. This just feels like way to many points for Wake Forest to be laying in this spot. The Demon Deacons are coming off a huge win at home against a ranked opponent in NC State, which was their 4th straight cover against the spread. Now they are basically being asked to beat Duke by two touchdowns in a meaningless game to close out the season.

On the flip side of this, the Blue Devils have all kinds of motivation here. Not only are they going to want revenge from last year’s upset loss at home to Wake Forest, but they need a victory here to become bowl eligible. Keep in mind that while Duke is just 5-6, they could easily have 7 or 8 wins, as they have 4 losses by a touchdown or less.

I also think it’s huge that the Blue Devils will be coming in here with a ton of confidence after that big win over Georgia Tech. Duke easily played one of their best games of the season, as they outgained the Yellow Jackets 500 to 359 and had a 30-15 edge in first downs.

A big part of their success against Georgia Tech was their running game, as the Blue Devils racked up 319 rushing yards on 51 attempts for a healthy 6.3 yards/carry. They be able to keep it going here against the Wake Forest, as the Demon Deacons come in 104th in the country against the run, giving up 200.3 yards/game.

It’s also worth pointing out that Wake has had a tough time over the years covering in the role of a big favorite. The Demon Deacons are just 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games when listed as a favorite of 10.5 to 21 points.
