Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Washington State vs UCLA

UCLA is still searching for their first win of the season after falling 48-14 at home to Oklahoma in Week 3. The Bruins gave up 17 unanswered points in the first quarter and never recovered, scoring just two touchdowns the rest of the way. QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson was 15/26 for 201 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two costly interceptions. Demetric Felton was the only member of the offense who had any success on the ground against the Sooners, averaging 13.0 yards per carry on only five rushing attempts. Felton also chipped in through the air, catching four passes for 44 yards. WR Devin Asiasi lead the way for the receiving corps, making three receptions for 71 yards but failing to find the end zone. Overall, UCLA gained just over 300 total yards of offense against a very tough Oklahoma defense.

The Bruins defense had a pretty shaky outing in Week 3, giving up six touchdowns and over 600 yards of total offense. UCLA really had a tough time trying to slow down Sooners QB Jalen Hurts, allowing him to go 15/20 for 289 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Washington State stayed perfect through their first three games of the season last weekend, beating Houston 31-24 on the road. The Cougars trailed 14-7 at halftime but rallied down the stretch, scoring 24 points over the final two quarters. QB Anthony Gordon was fantastic, going 36/48 for 440 passing yards and three touchdowns. RB Max Borghi led the way on the ground, rushing for 40 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Borghi also had six catches for 61 receiving yards while WR Brandon Arconado hauled in nine receptions for 115 yards. As a whole, Washington State racked up 498 yards of total offense and scored four touchdowns.

The Cougars defense wasn’t at their best against Houston, allowing over 350 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. Washington State struggled on the ground especially, as D’Eriq King and Patrick Carr combined for 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Washington State -19.5

As tempted as I am by the boatload of points on the table in this Pac-12 rivalry game, I just can’t get behind UCLA after their horrendous start to the year. Chip Kelly appears to be on the hot seat already, as the Bruins offense and defense has looked terrible. UCLA has yet to score more than 14 points in a single game and has lost two out of their three games by double-digits. While Washington State could be in a bit of a trap spot here in Week 4 with Utah looming large in Week 5, the Cougars offense should still find a way to put up enough points against a Bruins defense that has surrendered an average of over 31 points per game.

The Bruins have not fared well against the spread as of late, going just 6-14 ATS over their last 20 road games. They are also a brutal 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games overall. Washington State is a very solid 12-3 ATS in their last 15 home games. The Cougars have also been quite impressive against Pac-12 opponents, going 7-2 ATS over their last nine conference games. Finally, they are also 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall. Washington State might give up a couple of touchdowns but I like them to score 35+ points in this matchup, so I’m going to lay the 19.5 points and roll with the big home favorite. Give me the Cougars!
