It’s hard to believe that we are closing in on the end of the 2017 college football regular season. We turn our attention to Week 14, which is known as Championship Week. The majority of the games on tap are conference title games. The only exceptions being a couple makeup games and regular Sun Belt action. While most consider this the final week of the season, that technically not until next week when Army and Navy go to battle.
Week 14 College Football Preview Schedule & Betting Odds
Let’s take a look at the championship games with major playoff implications. The first is at 12:30 EST on Saturday when Oklahoma takes on TCU at AT&T Stadium for the Big 12 title. Most agree that with a win the Sooners lock up a spot in the playoffs. You then have the SEC Championship game at 4:00 EST between Georgia and Auburn, where the winner is almost assured a place in the final four. Then at 8:00 EST we have both the ACC (Miami/Clemson) and Big Ten (Ohio State/Wisconsin) title contest. Like the SEC title matchup, the winner of the ACC figures to be in. As for the Big 10, the Badgers are in with a win, while Ohio State would need some help.
All of that could change depending on how the committee views Alabama, who finished 11-1 with their only loss at Auburn, but one that cost them a spot in the SEC title game. I think if Oklahoma or Wisconsin loses the Crimson Tide will get the call and we will have our first playoff with two teams from the same conference. The big question is whether or not they would replace a team like Oklahoma, if they were to win. It’s also worth noting that while it’s a long shot, there could be a scenario where USC or Ohio State get in with a convincing win in their championship games.
I don’t know about you, but an 8-team playoff sure sounds good right about now.
