Week 17 NFL Vegas Game Lines: Point Spreads & Betting Totals
This can be one of the more difficult weeks to handicap. You have a number of teams with absolutely nothing to play for. Some of which will have no interest in playing, while others will lay it all the line regardless of what’s at stake. You have also have some of the top teams who will rest players because of not being able to hurt or improve their playoff position.
In the AFC, we know the top two seeds are going to be New England and Pittsburgh. If the Patriots win at home over the Jets, they secure the No. 1 seed. As of right now New England is a massive 15.5-point favorite and it would seem highly unlikely they were to lose in that spot. The Steelers can still get the No. 1 seed with a win and Patriots loss. The Jaguars have clinched the AFC South title and the No. 3 seed, while the Chiefs have clinched the AFC West and the No. 4 seed.
Baltimore is in ideal position to get the No. 5 seed and top Wild Card spot in the AFC. The Ravens can clinch that spot with a win or either a loss by the Titans or Bills. Tennessee and Buffalo are still in the mix, as they are both tied with the Chargers at 8-7. Leaving one spot for 3 teams.
In the NFC, the Eagles have clinched the No. 1 seed and it would appear the most likely scenario is that the Vikings will be the No. 2 seed. Minnesota can take matters into their owns hand and clinch the No. 2 seed with a win at home over the Bears. They also can secure that spot with a loss by the Panthers or wins by either the Rams or Saints.
Note that while the Vikings are just 1-game ahead of the Saints, Rams and Panthers, only Carolina has a shot at jumping Minnesota. For that to happen, the Vikings would have to lose to the Bears, Panthers would need to win in Atlanta and have both the Rams and Saints lose their games. Note that the Rams have already clinched the NFC West and at worst the No. 4 seed, while New Orleans holds the tiebreaker over Carolina if both were to win.
Whoever doesn’t win the NFC South between Carolina or New Orleans will be the No. 5 seed. That leaves one more spot to be decided and it’s between the Falcons and Seahawks. Atlanta has the edge due to a head-to-head win over Seattle. They can clinch the final Wild Card spot with a win or Seahawks loss.
