The Idaho Vandals (1-1) travel to Laramie in Week 3 to battle the Wyoming Cowboys (2-0). Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM EST on Saturday, September 14th at War Memorial Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPN3.

Taking a look at the Week 3 college football odds, Wyoming opened as a 25-point home favorite earlier this week. That line hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Cowboys are currently listed at -25. The total for the game is sitting at 55 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Wyoming vs Idaho

Idaho got back to .500 on the season in Week 2 after sneaking past Central Washington 41-31 in their home opener at the Kibbie Dome. The game was tied 17-17 in the third quarter when the Vandals scored two touchdowns en route to a double-digit victory. QB Mason Petrino played well, going 23/30 for 209 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite target was clearly Jeff Cotton, who racked up 16 catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. The running back duo of Aundre Carter and Roshaun Johnson also chipped in with a huge effort, combining for 234 rushing yards and three touchdowns. As a whole, the Idaho offense gained just under 500 total yards and scored five touchdowns.

The Vandals defense didn’t have a great outing last weekend, allowing the Wildcats to score four touchdowns through the air. Idaho also struggled to contain RB Michael Roots on the ground, as he averaged over five yards per carry en route to a 100+ rushing yard performance.

Wyoming stayed undefeated so far this year after an impressive 23-14 road victory over Texas State in Week 2. The Cowboys trailed 14-7 at the half but rallied in the third quarter, scoring ten unanswered points to take the lead before closing it out over the final fifteen minutes. QB Sean Chambers didn’t do much in the passing game, going 8/18 for just 103 yards and no touchdowns. He also threw a costly interception but made up for it on the ground, rushing eight times for 50 yards and a score.  No other Wyoming player did a whole lot on offense, as Gunner Gentry only had one catch for 44 yards while RB Trey Smith was held to just 3.4 yards per carry on the ground.

The Cowboys defense was pretty solid after surrendering 14-points in the first half, shutting out the Texas State offense the rest of the way. However, they did allow Hutch White and Jah’Marae Sheread to combine for 175 yards receiving and one touchdown.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Idaho +25

This spread is large enough that I think Idaho offers the best value in this matchup despite having to play on the road against an undefeated opponent. Wyoming deserves a ton of credit for their fast start, especially since they found a way to beat Missouri in Week 1. However, as long as they have to cover more than 24.5 points, I think that taking the Vandals and points makes the most sense. The Cowboys don’t have an explosive offense by any means, as they barely managed to score 24 points against Texas State in Week 2. Idaho also prefers to attack offensively on the ground, which should help them take some time off the clock and limit Wyoming’s total number of possessions.

Even though I think that Wyoming should ultimately be able to win this game by double-digits, I think that the Idaho offense should do enough to keep it close for at least a couple of quarters. It is also worth noting that the Vandals lopsided loss against Penn State back in Week 1 was mostly caused by how dominant the Nittany Lions were on the ground. The Cowboys aren’t overly dynamic when rushing the football, as it is usually quarterback Sean Chambers himself who leads the way on the ground. As long as Idaho can prevent Xazavian Valladay from having a second monster performance on the ground here in Week 3, I think the Vandals should be able to stay within 25 points despite likely dropping to 0-3 overall. I’ll take a shot with Idaho and the points.
