The state of Rhode Island opened its doors to the sports betting industry in late November of 2018.

At the time Rhode Island was just the seventh state outside of Nevada to make it legal. Joining Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia and Pennsylvania as states along the east coast to make the jump.

The first wager accepted in the Ocean State was at the Twin Rivers Casino. This came just five months after Governor Gina Raimondo signed the state budget to allow sports betting.

As you see there’s not a lot of options for residents in the state of Rhode Island. There are just two casinos in the state with a sportsbook on site and these are the only two land-based casinos in the state.

Those being the Tiverton Casino in Tiverton and the Twin River Casino in Lincoln. Both operations are run by the William Hill sportsbook, which is one of the more popular books in the country.

It will be interesting to see if any other books get in on the action in the future, as more options would definitely be a big plus for residents.

Rhode Island Online Sports Wagering & Mobile Gaming

While sports betting was legal in Rhode Island in late 2018, it wasn’t until March of 2019 that the state offered up the option of online wagering.

At this time only the Twin River’s Sportsbook has an online betting site for residents in the state.

While it figures to only be a matter of time before Tiverton gets there’s online platform up and going, those that want to make bets from the convenience of their home, will have to travel to Lincoln and physically sign up for an account at the Twin Rivers site.

As is the case with all state run online sportsbooks, you can only place a wager using their app inside state lines.
