I have been making profits betting NFL teasers for years and my teaser of the week has become one of the most visited pages on the site due to its consistent success. Simply put, they are beatable and you should add this bet type to your gambling arsenal this fall. This guide is going to explain what payouts you should get and what numbers you should look for to bet.

I’m going to start with the basics of what teasers are, why they are profitable, what situations you need to look for, and the best books to place your wagers. After reading this page you’ll be well equipped to take on the NFL season and make a decent profit beating the books. This information is and always will be completely free. But, if you decide to take advantage of the books with the best odds (like GTBets or BetOnline) then please do so using one of our links.

## What is an NFL Teaser Bet – Football Betting Payouts Explained

A teaser is a bet that includes two or more teams with bonus points to use on the point spread or total at a reduced payout. Like parlays, you must win every bet inside of your teaser for it to be a winning wager. Let’s take a look at a typical set of odds and see what happens when we tease both games. The original lines would look something like:

New England Patriots -7.5 vs Miami Dolphins

Cincinnati Bengals +2.5 vs Baltimore Ravens

Let’s say we want to bet a two-team 6-point teaser on these games. Remember that you can use the bonus points on whichever side of the game you want, so let’s take the Patriots and Bengals in a tease. This would give us a two-team teaser that looks like this:

Patriots -1.5

Bengals +8.5

Both lines adjust in our favor and give each one a better chance of covering. But, both teams will need to win at the adjusted spreads for the teaser to be a winner.

The standard teaser odds and payouts vary from book to book. That is why we offer the table below with payouts at some of the most popular places to make a wager.

You will also want to be aware of the rules for pushes on the site. The general rule is a push and a win is a push, a push and a loss is a loss. If you have 3 or more teams a push with wins will just reduce your payout. So a push, win and win on a 3-team teaser will reduce your payout to a 2-team teaser win. I’ve also seen books who grade pushes as losses. You’ll have to be careful with those.

To win with teasers you have to break down what odds are paying for each leg of the teaser. We can help you make a little sense of it with these tables.

#### 2 Teams

Odds | +100 | -110 | -120 | -130 | -140 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|

Win % Needed | 70.72% | 72.38% | 73.86% | 75.18% | 76.38% |

#### 3 Teams

Odds | -110 | -120 | -130 | +120 | +135 | +140 | +150 | +160 | +180 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Win % Needed | 80.61% | 81.71% | 82.68% | 76.89% | 75.22% | 74.69% | 73.68% | 72.73% | 70.95% |

#### 4 Teams

Odds | +180 | +200 | +215 | +235 | +240 | +250 | +260 | +300 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Win % Needed | 77.30% | 75.99% | 75.07% | 73.92% | 73.65% | 73.12% | 72.60% | 70.72% |

The formula used to calculate that data is risk divided by return. The return is the amount your risk plus the amount you win.

For example, if you have odds of -120 you would risk $120 to win $100. That would mean $120 divided by $220 which equals 54.55%. If you have two teams, both have to win to break even. So you must ask yourself how often each leg must win to achieve a 54.55% win rate. To find that answer you take the square root of 54.55% and come up with 73.86%.

For 3 teams you would divide the number by the cubed root, 4 teams you use the 4th root, and etc…

## Best Numbers & Odds for 6, 6.5, 7 & 10-Point Super NFL Wong Teasers

What you should already be able to guess is that not all teasers are equal. Teasers bet on teams at different odds hit at much different rates. If you are crossing key numbers like 3, 7, 10, 6, or 4 you are going to have more success. Stanford Wong in his book Sharp Sports Betting showed that taking favorites of -8.5, -8, or -7.5 and underdogs of 1.5, 2, and 2.5 were the way to profiting off of teaser bets. That is why these are known as Wong Teasers.

But just how profitable is it to cross these numbers? And is it better to take home or away teams? We went through thousands of games to create the tables below. You’ll find 6, 6.5, 7, and 10 point teasers and the rates at which the teaser hits at. We have highlighted the profitable numbers on the best odds you can find above.

HF – Home Favorite

AF – Away Favorite

HD – Home Dog

AD – Away Dog

*Note that once you get past -4 for a home dog or away favorite the sample size is under 100 games. That is too small to draw a definite conclusion.

As you can see, the majority of situations for NFL teasers are not profitable, but this doesn’t mean you should avoid them. It means you should use the tables above to help you find the right numbers to tease in the NFL.

There are a couple of situations in particular that I look for.

I’ve found that in division games the teams know each other really well and the games are usually tighter. This is turn makes the extra points you get with a teaser even more valuable.

Conference games are also a little closer, particularly for away teams. I’m not saying teams on the road give up, but they seem to have less fight in them when getting down than the home teams do. Thus, I avoid non-conference road teams.
