The Angle(s): Carolina opens as the defending Stanley Cup champions with the banner going up at home, and the numbers back that spot. The Hurricanes went 37-12-2 at Lenovo Center last season (playoffs included), ranked second in goals scored and first in shots allowed. Florida missed the playoffs, went just 17-23-1 on the road, and finished 28th in goals allowed. Brad Marchand is out until November.
Florida's 6-3 win in the preseason meeting is mostly irrelevant IMO, since Carolina dressed something close to an AHL lineup that night. The rematch went Carolina's way in a shootout with both teams closer to full strength. The Hurricanes also outscored Florida 14-10 over three meetings last season (although only winning once), and I like the home side to control possession and shot volume in a hostile, emotional building.
