There isn’t much that can get an NFL fan base excited than to get a star offensive skill player in the draft. That is why the books are pretty quick to post odds right after the draft on which players will take home the OROY award by the end of the season.
I’m not sure if any of these guys will give their teams a shift in the Super Bowl odds or NFL win totals, but let’s take a look at the betting favorites for offensive rookie of the year and see which one of these contenders will end up bringing home the hardware.

2023 OROY Betting Favorites & Contenders
Bijan Robinson
It’s not too often that you see a running back come in as such a heavy favorite when the quarterbacks in the class will see immediate playing time. But Bijan Robinson was the eighth pick in the draft and there is no denying his talent. He’s a reliable pass catcher who also has the size and strength to require multiple defenders to bring him down. There hasn’t been a back generate this much excitement since Saquon Barkley and that turned out well for the New York Giants back in 2018 when he won OROY.
Bryce Young
The No. 1 pick in the draft was Bryce Young, quarterback from Alabama. The Carolina Panthers and Frank Reich have to be excited to be getting such a good fit for the offense. Young is accurate, has poise, and showed good decision-making ability in college. He should make for an immediate upgrade on a team that completed just 58% of their passes last year and finished second to last in QBR. He’s a little shorter than some scouts liked, but being a pocket passer with mobility should help him overcome the height disadvantage.
Anthony Richardson
The Indianapolis Colts taking Richardson at No. 4 was interesting to me. He’s raw but has incredible size and strength. He’s a good runner whose speed makes him a threat to beat teams on the ground as well as through the air. I don’t love his chances to win this award because he’s going to take some time to develop.
CJ Stroud
The Houston Texans got their guy with the second pick in the draft. Stroud comes out of Ohio State as the best pure pocket passer in the draft. Again, you don’t get one of the top picks in the draft with quality play out of the quarterback position, so he should be able to show some improvement over Davis Mills last season. If Houston can integrate play-action it should work out well for the accurate passer.
Jahmyr Gibbs
Another Alabama guy makes the list, this time it’s the 12th pick who will be going to the Detroit Lions. He’s agile and can make would-be tacklers look pretty silly, and then if he gets into the open field he’s real difficult to catch. He can also catch passes, which makes him a real threat to opposing defenses. It’ll be interesting to see how much he opens the field up for the rest of the Lions offense, and if he gets enough playing time in a crowded backfield to win this award.
